2 Simple Ways to Play YouTube Videos in Background

YouTube officially allows background play of its videos in its premium service called YouTube RED. While this is a great choice to have, paying for premium isn’t in the bucket list of many. So here’s two straightforward methods to play YT videos without paying for anything.

Many modern day android browsers like FireFox and Chrome do support picture-in-picture (pip) mode, which allows playback of YouTube videos in the backdrop. However, this is only available in the higher versions of android whose distribution ratio is still the lowest.

If you’re into such simplicity you can always check out an extension for FireFox android called Video Background Play Fix. It allows playing of videos in the background. This may not give the finest experience as like in the YouTube app itself. So below are just 2 methods that can help you in getting the feature of background playback of videos in YouTube.

Using YouTube Vanced Edition

YouTube vanced is a modded version of the official YT application and is community supported in XDA. Vanced edition is just perfect and i find it better and useful in many cases than the official youtube app. It not only provides background playback of videos but also has a built-in ad-blocker. And guess what?, you don’t need to be rooted to have this application to work flawlessly.

By default there are 3 different ways to install this application on to your android phone.

For Non-rooted devices

  • You just download the vanced apk from here and install it
  • Now intsall microg from here along with it, if you need to have the ability to login to your YouTube account

For Magisk enabled devices

If you’ve have magisk installed then, search for YouTube vanced in the magisk modules download section inside the Magisk application.

For Other rooted devices

  • Download the flashable zip from here
  • Uninstall/Disable official YouTube application
  • Flash the downloaded installer via TWRP

NOTE: always make sure that auto-updates are turned off in the Google playstore while using YouTube vanced. Automatic updates if enabled will replace the vanced edition of YouTube.

Using Ymusic application

YMusic is a YouTube music player application. It is not available in the playstore as it violates YouTube privacy policies. This is a great application if you need to download videos from youtube directly in any format like mp3,mp4..etc,.

Additionally, this application provides the option to play YouTube videos in the background. It has neat interface which lets you search through YouTube videos. Besides, this application can serve as your default mp3-player for android devices.

You can also use the official YouTube application and share the needed video to Ymusic application to listen in the background.
